EC Fines Intel For Illegal Practices

The European Commission (EC) sent a strong message to the world yesterday, as it fined Intel Corp. a record EUR 1.06B for using illegal practices to maintain market dominance. Though Intel is appealing the ruling, which also orders it to halt these tactics, things do not look good for the world’s biggest chipmaker which paid computer manufacturers to delay or end plans to use chips that were made by rival company Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD). Not surprisingly, Intel’s stock fell 0.53% to US$ 15.13 at yesterday’s close.
